Fitting Orthotics

Fitting Orthotics

Properly fitting orthotics is critically important and easily done with a foot measuring device and the general appearance of a foot.  We must measure the size of the arch and the height of the arch.  Why is important to measure the arch? Everyone has different length toes, and the orthotic needs to fit to the arch not the overall length of the foot.

Sizing the Arch with Brannock Device

Determining the size of the arch is the most accurate way of properly fitting the overall length of the arch support. This can be accomplished by using a Brannock device, the device used at most sporting good and shoe stores.

Measure the arch by solidly placing the heel against the counter of the Brannock device and then move the slider so it fits around the 1st metatarsal head (the bony prominence making up the big toe "knuckle".) This is the arch size of your foot. if they vary, use the smaller size when ordering arch supports.

Sizing the Arch with the Pro Arch Sizing Chart

The Pro Arch Supports' Arch Sizing Chart is the easiest way to measure your arch, just print out the appropriate chart and follow the instructions.  Make sure the heel is aligned with the line at the bottom of the page and use the center of the big toe knuckle as illustrated on the sizing chart to find the correct size.

Sizing the Height of the Arch

The size of the arch is somewhat arbitrary, if when you stand up and the arch of your foot is resting on the ground, you have a flat foot. A flat foot should order the TruFlex Pro, TruBalance Pro, or the TruSupport Pro. These arch supports have modest support through the arch, they are ideal for those that have not worn arch supports in the past, occasionally people may graduate to the the TruSport Pro or the TruStable Pro after some time.

The TruSport Pro and the TruStable Pro are much better arch supports for those that have some space under the arch, higher arch, or worn arch supports in the past. These arch supports are also a nice progression for those that have been wearing the TruFlex Pro, TruBalance Pro, or TruSupport Pro and feel they need a little higher arch support.
